At the end of the 19th century four windmills operated in Bačka Topola, but only one has survived to this day. The Bačka Topola windmill belongs to the family of typical four-storey Vojvodina windmills.
By the mid-19th century there were already three windmills in Bačka Topola. They were used to grind wheat and maize until as late as 1969. This characteristic Tisza-type windmill was moved about twenty years ago from its original site (the fairground) to its present location on the lakeshore. The windmill stands next to Lake Zobnatica, 1 km from the town on the road to Subotica. Since 1987 it has served as a museum and a monument to the milling industry. It is currently closed to visitors.
