The Municipality of Bačka Topola – the heart of northern Bačka
The Municipality of Bačka Topola lies in the north of the Republic of Serbia, in the Province of Vojvodina – more precisely in northern Bačka, at the heart of the wide and fertile Pannonian Plain. Thanks to its geographical position and historical role, Bačka Topola has always been an important place of transit and encounter – where roads, languages, cultures and customs meet.
The administrative seat of the municipality is the town of Bačka Topola, today the economic, political and cultural centre of the region. Located in the valley of the Krivaja river, on the gentle hills of the Bačka loess plateau, the municipality covers 596 km². More than 26,000 people live in its 23 settlements, and the town itself has about 11,930 inhabitants (2022 census).
What makes Bačka Topola especially valuable is its ethnic diversity – more than 20 different nationalities live here in harmony and mutual respect. Four official languages are used equally in everyday life – Serbian, Hungarian, Rusyn and Slovak – further reflecting the multicultural character of the area.
Excellent transport links
The Municipality of Bačka Topola lies on one of the most important transport routes in the region. The international E-75 motorway (Corridor X), linking northern and southern Europe, runs through it. The Budapest–Belgrade international railway line also crosses the municipality, together with a network of modern regional roads, providing quick and easy access to larger cities in Serbia and neighbouring countries.
This location makes the municipality particularly well suited for the development of tourism, as well as for investment, logistics, agriculture and industry.
