The former cartwright and blacksmith workshop of the Egri brothers, once highly regarded in the town, is a rarity today, as both crafts have all but died out. Yet blacksmithing and cartwrighting had a long tradition in Topola from the 18th century. As late as the 1940s there were still forty blacksmith workshops in the town. Carts made in Topola were popular throughout the province, and local blacksmiths knew all the secrets of the trade. Because of its typical iron decorations, one type of cart is even called the “Topola cart”. Today the interior of the workshop is open to visitors, and a well-preserved black carriage is also on display.
The workshop is open to visitors from spring to autumn; visits are possible all year round by appointment.
